WordPress SEO Services That Make Your Site Fast, Clean and Easy for Google to Rank

WordPress can do almost anything, which is exactly how most WordPress sites end up slow and cluttered. We clean up the plugins, hosting and settings, then build the content that wins rankings.

Why is your WordPress site slipping in Google?

WordPress sites usually slip because they get heavier and messier over time while competitors keep improving. Nobody breaks the site on purpose. It happens one plugin, one page builder update and one rushed blog post at a time.

Maybe your developer moved on. Maybe the dashboard shows 14 update notices you are afraid to click. You have Yoast installed, and the little lights are mostly green, but your rankings keep sliding and you can't tell why.

Here's the hard part: green lights in an SEO plugin don't mean a page will rank. They mean a few boxes were checked. Meanwhile, slow load times on cheap hosting push visitors back to the search results, and every competitor who fixed their site takes a little more of your traffic.

What should you check on a WordPress site first?

Start with plugins, hosting and your SEO plugin settings. Those three cause most of the WordPress SEO problems we see. Here is a 10-minute self-check you can run today.

1. Count your active plugins. There is no magic number, but every plugin is code that must load, update and play nicely with the rest. Ask of each one: do we still use it? Does a lighter option exist? Deactivated plugins you'll never use should go.

2. Run only one SEO plugin. Yoast SEO and Rank Math both do the same job. Running both, or one plus an old "all in one" plugin, can print duplicate title tags and conflicting schema (code that describes your page to search engines). Pick one and remove the rest.

3. Check what your SEO plugin hides from Google. In Yoast or Rank Math, look at the settings for tags, categories, author archives and media. A small business blog rarely needs separate tag pages and author archives indexed. They often create thin pages that compete with your real content.

4. Check attachment pages. Older WordPress sites can create a separate page for every uploaded image. WordPress turned these off by default for new sites starting in version 6.4, but sites built before that may still have them. Your SEO plugin can redirect them.

5. Test your hosting. Load your homepage on your phone using cellular data. If the screen stays blank for a few seconds before anything appears, your server response may be slow. Bargain shared hosting is a common cause, and no plugin can fully fix a slow server.

6. Look at your page builder. Builders like Elementor and Divi make design easy but can add a lot of code to every page. That doesn't mean you have to rebuild. It means images, fonts and unused widgets need extra discipline.

A mistake to avoid: Don't stack three caching or speed plugins hoping they add up. They often fight each other and can break your layout. One well-configured caching setup beats three overlapping ones.

Which WordPress settings quietly hurt rankings?

The self-check above covers plugins and hosting. These are the settings inside WordPress itself that we find wrong most often. Each takes a minute to check.

  • The "discourage search engines" box: Under Settings, then Reading, there is a checkbox that asks search engines not to index the site. Developers tick it while building. Sometimes nobody unticks it at launch. If your whole site vanished from Google after a redesign, look here first.
  • Permalinks: Under Settings, then Permalinks, "Post name" gives clean addresses like /roof-repair/. If your addresses still look like /?p=123, they tell Google and buyers nothing. Changing them on a live site needs redirects, so plan the switch first.
  • Two sitemaps: WordPress makes its own sitemap at /wp-sitemap.xml. Yoast and Rank Math each make their own and normally switch the built-in one off. Submit only one in Search Console, and make sure it lists the pages you want found.
  • Oversized images: WordPress creates smaller copies of each upload and lazy-loads images lower on the page. It cannot rescue a 5 MB photo placed at the top of the page. Resize before you upload, and use a modern format like WebP where you can.
  • Old PHP version: PHP is the language WordPress runs on. Hosts let you choose the version. An outdated one makes every page slower and less secure. Your hosting dashboard or the Site Health screen under Tools shows which version you are on.
  • Mixed-up categories and tags: Fifty tags used once each create fifty thin pages. Keep a short list of categories that match your services, and use tags sparingly or not at all.
  • Hacked pages: Search Google for site:yourdomain.com and scan the results. Pages about pills, casinos or products you do not sell mean the site has been compromised. That is a security job first and an SEO job second.
  • No redirects after cleanup: Deleting old posts and pages without redirecting them throws away their links. Send each one to the closest live page.

Value tip: Open WordPress, go to Tools, then Site Health. It is built in and free. It flags an old PHP version, inactive plugins and themes, missing HTTPS and background tasks that are failing. Fix what it lists as critical before you spend a dollar on SEO.

2x

revenue in six months

What does a WordPress SEO turnaround look like in numbers?

Here's one way to read a result. In a recent six-month campaign that ran on WordPress and Shopify, impressions grew 6x and clicks grew 5x, and revenue doubled.

Look at how close those first two numbers are. Impressions tell you how often Google showed the site. Clicks tell you how often people chose it. When clicks grow almost as fast as impressions, it means the new visibility came with rankings high enough, and titles strong enough, that people actually clicked. That's the difference between showing up on page three and showing up where buyers look.

Then revenue doubled, which is the only number that matters to you.

We crawl your site, test speed and pull a keyword rankings report.

2. Strategy (week 1–2)

We decide which plugins stay, what hosting you need, and which pages to fix or create first.

How much does WordPress SEO cost?

Plans start at $950/month. Local businesses on WordPress usually fit Starter or Traction. WooCommerce stores and sites competing nationwide often need Growth or higher. Price depends on site size, how much cleanup is needed, your competition and your content goals. Hosting costs are separate and paid to your host. See pricing.

Who will work on your WordPress site?

Brian Vastola, our founder, has 25 years of hands-on SEO and has worked on WordPress sites for most of that time. He leads your audit and strategy himself. Our senior team of five handles content, technical changes and links. When your developer or host needs to be involved, Brian joins the call.

When will you see WordPress SEO results?

  • Weeks 1–4: Plugin cleanup and speed fixes go live. You'll often feel the difference on your phone right away.
  • Months 1–3: Google recrawls cleaner pages. Updated older posts are often the first to climb, since they already have some history.
  • Months 3–6: New content starts ranking and clicks rise.
  • Months 6–12: Results compound as content and links build up.

These are typical ranges, not promises. Competitive industries take longer.

What does WordPress SEO look like month to month?

The order matters. Cleanup comes first, because content published on a slow, cluttered site is working uphill.

Months 1 to 3: clean and stabilize

We take a full backup, set up a staging copy, remove or replace plugins, settle on one SEO plugin and one caching setup, fix indexing rules and repair titles and headings on your money pages. If hosting is the bottleneck, we tell you plainly and help you move.

Month 4 onward: publish and build

  • New service pages and blog posts, at the number your plan includes
  • Refreshes of older posts that already rank on page two
  • Internal links from blog posts to the service pages that earn money
  • Backlinks and citations added each month
  • A check after WordPress, theme and plugin updates, since updates can change titles, schema or speed
  • A monthly report with rankings, traffic and leads or sales, plus next steps

Refreshing old posts is one of the best uses of a WordPress budget. A post that already sits on page two has history and often a few links. Updating it, tightening the title and linking it to a service page usually pays off sooner than starting a new post from zero.

How does WordPress SEO help you show up in AI answers?

AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews build answers from pages they can read quickly and trust. WordPress gives you full control over all of that, which is an advantage if you use it.

  • Schema from one source: Your SEO plugin can mark up your organization, articles, FAQs and local business details. One plugin doing it cleanly beats three plugins printing conflicting versions.
  • Direct answers: Start each section with a plain answer to the question in its heading, then add detail. That is the format AI tools quote.
  • Real authors: Author pages with names, experience and credentials help both readers and machines judge who is behind the advice.
  • Fresh dates that mean something: Update posts when facts change, and show the updated date. Do not change dates without changing content.
  • Open doors for crawlers: Check that your robots.txt file and security plugins are not blocking the crawlers you want reading your site.

AI visibility work is included in every plan. Learn more about our GEO services.

What should you ask any WordPress SEO agency?

Ask these before you sign with anyone. They separate people who work in WordPress every day from people who resell a checklist.

  • Do you take a backup and use a staging copy before big changes?
  • Which plugins will you add, which will you remove, and why?
  • Who holds the plugin licenses and the hosting account? Is it me?
  • Who writes the content, and do I approve it before it goes live?
  • What will you do about my page builder: keep it, trim it or replace it?
  • How will I know what you changed each month?
  • What happens to everything you built if I cancel?

What affects cost and timeline on WordPress?

The biggest factor is how much cleanup the site needs before growth work can start. A tidy site on good hosting moves straight to content and links. A site with years of plugin clutter, a heavy page builder or a past hack needs repair first. After that, price follows the same things as any SEO work: how many pages or products you have, how strong your competitors are, and how much content and how many links your plan includes each month. Hosting and premium plugin fees are separate and paid to those companies. Our plans have no long-term contract: month-to-month or a 6-month agreement, with 30 days' notice to cancel.

Is WordPress good for SEO?

Yes. WordPress gives you full control over URLs, content, code and hosting, which is why so many top-ranking sites use it. The tradeoff is upkeep. Plugins, themes and hosting all need care, and a neglected WordPress site can fall behind a well-kept site on a simpler platform.

Yoast or Rank Math: which is better?

Both work well. Yoast is simpler and very widely used. Rank Math packs more features into its free version. The plugin matters far less than how it's configured. Never run both at once. If your current one is set up correctly, there's usually no reason to switch.

How much do WordPress SEO services cost?

Plans start at $950/month for local businesses. WooCommerce and nationwide sites usually need a higher plan because they need more content and links. If your site needs heavy cleanup first, we'll show you that scope in writing before you commit.

How long does WordPress SEO take to work?

Speed and technical fixes can show results within weeks. Most sites see meaningful traffic growth in 3 to 6 months. In one recent WordPress and Shopify campaign, clicks grew 5x and revenue doubled within six months. Your timeline depends on competition and the site's starting point.

How many plugins is too many?

There's no fixed number. Ten heavy plugins can do more harm than thirty light ones. What matters is whether each plugin is needed, kept updated and loading only where it's used. We review every plugin and remove the ones that slow you down without paying their way.

Does cheap hosting hurt SEO?

It can. Slow server response delays every page, and no plugin fully fixes that. Overcrowded shared hosting also tends to go down more often. For a business site that brings in leads, better managed hosting usually costs less per month than a single lost customer.

Do you do WooCommerce SEO?

Yes. WooCommerce stores need the WordPress basics plus product schema, category page content, faceted filter control and fast product pages. For deeper store work, see our e-commerce SEO services.

Will you break my site?

We work carefully to avoid that. Higher-risk changes go on a staging copy first, we take backups before updates, and we coordinate with your developer. If something does go wrong, we roll it back fast.

Do I need to rebuild my WordPress site to rank better?

Usually not. Most WordPress sites can be cleaned up in place: fewer plugins, better hosting, lighter pages and stronger content. A rebuild makes sense when the theme is abandoned, the page builder output is too heavy to fix, or the design is costing you leads. If we think you need one, we will show you why. Web design is quoted per project.

Do WordPress updates affect SEO?

They can, in both directions. Updates keep the site secure and often make it faster. Now and then a theme or plugin update changes titles, schema or layout without warning. Update on a schedule, take a backup first, test big updates on a staging copy, and look over your key pages afterward.
