Why isn't your Wix site ranking?
Most Wix sites don't rank because the built-in SEO tools only cover the basics, and the basics are not enough to beat competitors. You filled in the SEO checklist. You added titles and descriptions. Wix told you your site was "SEO ready." And the phone still isn't ringing from Google.
That gap is frustrating because it feels like you did everything right. The truth is that Wix's setup wizard gets you to the starting line. It does not tell you that your homepage is trying to rank for six different services, that your product pages share the same thin description, or that the gallery app you love is adding weight to every page.
Meanwhile, someone else may be telling you to scrap Wix and rebuild on WordPress. That could cost you months and thousands of dollars, and it may not fix anything. Every month you wait, the competitor at the top of the map pack collects the calls that could be yours.
Is Wix good for SEO in 2026?
Yes, for most small businesses and small to mid-size stores. Wix now does the core technical work well on its own. Its limits are about control and page weight, not about Google refusing to rank Wix sites. Here is the honest breakdown so you can judge any advice you get, including ours.
What Wix does well:
- Creates an XML sitemap (a file listing your pages for Google) automatically and keeps it updated.
- Adds canonical tags (tags that point Google to the main version of a page) by default.
- Lets you edit your robots.txt file and set 301 redirects from the dashboard.
- Lets you change URL prefixes, so product pages no longer have to sit under "/product-page/" and blog posts under "/post/". Wix can redirect the old URLs for you when you change them.
- Lets you set SEO patterns, so every product or post gets a sensible title and description template.
Where Wix gets in the way:
- Page weight. Wix pages load a lot of code you cannot remove. Every app, animation and video background adds more. Phones on weak signals feel it first.
- Limited code access. You cannot edit the server or the core theme code, so some fixes need workarounds instead of direct edits.
- Thin auto-generated pages. Blog category and tag pages, and near-identical product variants, can create pages with little unique content.
- One-page-fits-all habits. Wix templates push owners toward a single "Services" page, when each service usually needs its own page to rank.
A mistake to avoid: Don't change your URL structure without checking the redirect box and testing old links. A URL change done in a hurry is one of the fastest ways to lose rankings you already have.
Which Wix SEO mistakes can you check yourself?
Most Wix problems we find are not hidden in code. They sit in plain view in the editor. Walk through this list before you pay anyone.
- Headings chosen by looks: In Wix, every text box has a style, and the style sets the heading tag. Owners often pick "Heading 1" because it is the biggest font. Each page should have one H1 that says what the page is about, with H2s for the sections under it.
- Words inside images: If your service list or price sheet is a picture, Google and AI tools cannot read it. Put the words on the page as real text and keep the picture as a picture.
- One long scrolling page: A menu that jumps to anchors on a single page gives Google one page to rank. One page cannot rank well for five services. Give each service its own page.
- A thin mobile version: Wix lets you hide elements on the mobile layout. Google mostly reads the mobile version of your site. If you hid a block of text on mobile to tidy things up, Google may not count it.
- Checklist done, Google not connected: The Wix SEO setup checklist can connect your site to Google Search Console. Many owners skip that step. Without it, you cannot see which searches show your site or which pages Google left out.
- Homepage title left as the business name: "Home | Smith and Sons" tells Google nothing. Your homepage title should say what you do and where you do it.
- Copy-and-paste city pages: Wix makes it easy to duplicate a page and swap the town name. Twenty near-identical pages help nobody. Build a page only for places you really serve, with details that are true for that place.
- Old addresses left to break: When you rename or delete a page, add a 301 redirect in the URL Redirect Manager. Otherwise every link and ranking that page earned is lost.
Value tip: In Search Console, open the Pages report and read the reasons under "Why pages aren't indexed." On a Wix site, the usual suspects are old addresses with no redirect, duplicated pages and thin blog tag pages. That report is free, and it tells you more than the green checkmarks in any setup wizard.

6x
impressions in six months for a Wix store
What happened when a Wix store fixed its SEO?
A Wix e-commerce store hired us to grow organic sales. We did not move them off Wix. We worked inside the platform, using the same playbook described on this page: fix what Wix lets you fix, work around what it doesn't, and build pages around what buyers actually search.
Six months later, impressions were up 6x, clicks were up 2.5x and organic revenue had tripled. Same platform. Different strategy.
E-commerce owners like Joey W. have left 5-star Google reviews about working with us. Read our reviews.

How much do Wix SEO services cost?
Plans start at $950/month. Local Wix sites usually fit Starter or Traction. Wix stores selling nationwide usually need Growth or higher, because they need more content and links to compete. What changes the price: how many pages or products you have, how competitive your market is, and how fast you want to grow. Compare plans on our pricing page.
Who will be working on your Wix site?
Brian Vastola leads your account. He has done hands-on SEO for 25 years and still does the work himself. Our senior team of five handles content, links and technical fixes. If your Wix designer needs to make changes, Brian gets on the call with them. You will never be passed to an account manager.
What results should you expect on Wix, and when?
- Weeks 2–6: Speed and indexing fixes go live. Search Console starts showing more pages indexed.
- Months 2–4: Impressions rise as new and improved pages get picked up. Local sites often see map pack movement here.
- Months 4–6: Clicks, calls and sales grow as rankings move from page two to page one.
- Month 6+: Growth compounds with steady content and links.
Competitive markets take longer. We will give you a realistic range after the audit. No one can guarantee rankings, and you should be wary of anyone who does.
What does Wix SEO look like month to month?
The first three months are cleanup and structure. After that, the work settles into a steady routine inside your Wix dashboard.
Months 1 to 3: foundations
We connect Search Console, fix headings and titles, split crowded pages, set redirects for any address that changes, trim apps and heavy media, and set the SEO patterns that give every product or post a sensible title. If you sell through Wix Stores, product copy and structured data get the same attention.
Month 4 onward: growth
- New service, location or category pages, built one keyword group at a time
- Blog posts that answer buyer questions and link to the page that sells
- Backlinks and citations added each month, at the level your plan includes
- Google Business Profile posts, photos and review replies for local sites
- A speed check after every new app, video or design change
- A monthly report with rankings, clicks, calls or sales, and next month's plan
When a site has dozens of similar pages, such as locations or product types, we often build them from a Wix CMS collection. One design, many pages, each with its own real content. It keeps the site consistent and makes updates fast.
How does Wix SEO tie into AI search?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews answer questions by reading pages and checking what other sites say about a business. A Wix site can earn those mentions like any other site, if the basics are in place.
- Readable text: Services, prices, service areas and hours written as plain text, not inside images or sliders.
- Question-and-answer content: Short, direct answers to the questions buyers ask. AI tools quote clear answers.
- Structured data: Wix adds basic markup to products, blog posts and events automatically. We add more where it helps, such as local business and FAQ markup, using the custom structured data option in each page's SEO settings.
- A consistent footprint: The same name, address and phone number on your site, your Google Business Profile and major directories, plus reviews and mentions on other sites.
Every plan includes this work. See our GEO services, or run your business through the free AI visibility checker.
What should you ask any Wix SEO agency?
Use these questions with every agency you talk to. The answers show quickly who knows the platform and who is guessing.
- How many Wix sites have you worked on, and can you show results from one?
- Will you work inside my Wix site as a collaborator, or ask for my login?
- Is your first advice to move me to WordPress? If so, why exactly?
- Which pages will you change first, and how will I see what changed?
- How do you handle redirects when a page address changes?
- Who writes the content, and do I approve it before it goes live?
- What do I keep if I cancel?
What affects cost and timeline on Wix?
Three things, mostly. First, the size of the site: a ten-page service site is a smaller job than a store with hundreds of products. Second, your market: a crowded category needs more pages and more links each month. Third, how much has to be rebuilt: a site with one long page or dozens of duplicate pages needs structural work before growth work can start. A local Wix site with light competition often moves in the first few months. A Wix store selling nationwide should plan on six months or more of steady work. There are no long-term contracts. You pick month-to-month or a 6-month agreement, and either can be canceled with 30 days' notice.
Can a Wix site rank on the first page of Google?
Yes. Wix sites rank on page one in local and e-commerce markets every day. Google ranks pages, not platforms. What matters is focused content, a fast page, clean technical setup and authority from other sites. Wix can handle all of that when it is configured with care.
Should I switch from Wix to WordPress for SEO?
Usually not. Switching costs time and money and risks the rankings you already have. Move only if you need something Wix cannot do, like heavy custom code or a very large catalog. Our free audit will tell you honestly which side of that line you are on.
How much does Wix SEO cost?
Plans start at $950/month for local businesses. Wix stores competing nationwide usually start at $3,600/month because they need more content and links. The final price depends on site size, competition and goals. You get the full scope in writing before you commit.
How long does Wix SEO take to work?
Technical fixes often show up within 2 to 6 weeks. Most Wix sites see clear traffic gains in 3 to 6 months. Our Wix store case reached 6x impressions and tripled organic revenue in six months, but every market is different, so we set expectations after your audit.
Do I need to give you my Wix login?
No. You add us as a site collaborator from your Wix dashboard, so you never share your password. You control the role and can remove access at any time. We only change what we have agreed to in the plan.
Do Wix apps slow down my website?
Often, yes. Each app can add its own scripts, fonts and tracking code to your pages. A few apps are fine. Ten or more, plus video backgrounds and animations, can make a phone visitor wait. We audit every app and keep only the ones that earn their place.
Can you fix the "/product-page/" and "/post/" URLs on Wix?
Yes. Wix lets you change these URL prefixes in SEO Settings and can redirect the old addresses automatically. We plan the change first, check every redirect, and watch Search Console afterward so you keep the rankings you already have.
Will you redesign my Wix site?
Only if it helps you rank or convert. Most Wix SEO work happens without changing your look. If your layout is costing you leads, our web design team can rebuild pages inside Wix while protecting your rankings.
Is the Wix SEO checklist enough to rank?
No. The checklist covers the basics: a homepage title, a description, mobile setup and a Search Console connection. Those are worth doing. Ranking against real competitors also takes a focused page for each service or product group, useful content, fast pages and links from other sites. The checklist gets you started. It does not do that work.
Do Wix sites show up in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?
Yes, they can. AI tools read pages and weigh what other sites say about a business. They do not care which platform built the page. What matters is clear text they can read, direct answers to common questions, consistent business details and mentions on trusted sites. We include that work in every plan.
