What does an SEO audit grader do?

An SEO audit grader tests a single web page for the technical and on-page problems that most often hold back rankings, then gives you a score and a fix list. This one combines Google PageSpeed Insights, which measures speed and page experience, with checks on titles, headings, links, and content that search engines read first.

You get a letter grade, a score out of 100, and a short explanation for each check, written for a business owner, not a developer.

What does the grader measure?

From Google PageSpeed Insights:

  • Performance score. Google's 0 to 100 lab score for how fast the page loads and becomes usable.
  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP). How long the main content, usually the hero image or headline, takes to appear. Google's target is 2.5 seconds or less.
  • Interaction to Next Paint (INP). How quickly the page responds when someone taps or clicks. Target: 200 milliseconds or less.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). How much the page jumps around while loading. Target: 0.1 or less.
  • SEO score. Google Lighthouse's basic SEO checklist.
  • Accessibility score. How usable the page is for people with disabilities, including screen reader users. Accessible pages are also easier for search engines to read.

From our on-page checks:

  • Title tag length
  • Meta description
  • Number of H1 headings
  • Canonical tag
  • Robots meta tag (whether the page tells Google not to index it)
  • Image alt text
  • Word count

Which SEO problems matter most?

Not every red mark is equal. Here is how we think about priority after 25 years of fixing sites.

Indexing problems come first. If the robots meta tag says "noindex," Google will not show the page at all. Nothing else on the list matters until that is fixed. A wrong canonical tag can do similar damage by telling Google a different page is the "real" one.

Titles and H1s come next. The title tag is the blue headline in search results. It is one of the clearest signals of what the page is about, and it decides whether people click.

Speed and Core Web Vitals matter, but in context. Google uses page experience as one of many signals. A slow page will not sink great content, but between two similar pages, the faster one has the edge. Slow pages also lose visitors. People leave before they ever see your offer.

Content depth and alt text round it out. Pages with very little text often struggle to rank for anything. Alt text helps images show up in image search and makes your site usable for people who rely on screen readers.

What should I do with my SEO grade?

  1. Fix every "Fail" in the On-page section first. These are usually quick and in your control: rewrite a title, add a meta description, remove an extra H1, add alt text. On Wix, Shopify, and WordPress, most of these are edited in the page's SEO settings.
  2. Check robots and canonical on your most important pages. If either fails, fix it before anything else, or ask your developer to.
  3. Look at which Core Web Vital fails. LCP is usually large images or slow hosting. INP is usually heavy scripts, such as chat widgets and trackers. CLS is usually images or ads without set sizes. Share the specific metric with your developer.
  4. Re-test on mobile. Google mainly uses the mobile version of your site for ranking.
  5. Grade your top five pages, not just the homepage. Service and product pages usually bring in the money.

A single grade cannot tell you about your backlinks, your keyword rankings, or how you compare with competitors. That is what our free audit adds.

Is this SEO audit grader really free?

Yes. It is free with no signup. You can grade as many pages as you like within fair-use limits. Speed data comes from Google's free PageSpeed Insights service, and the on-page checks run on our side. You see your full results on screen without entering an email.

Why is my score different each time I run it?

Speed tests vary a little from run to run because network conditions, server load, and third-party scripts change. Differences of a few points are normal. Core Web Vitals from real users, when available, are more stable because they cover 28 days of visits. Focus on trends and on checks that fail every time.

What is a good PageSpeed score?

Google treats 90 or higher as good, 50 to 89 as needs improvement, and below 50 as poor. Many real business sites score 40 to 70 on mobile because of chat tools, tracking scripts, and large images. Aim for passing Core Web Vitals first; they reflect what real visitors experience.

Will fixing everything here get me to page one?

Not on its own. These fixes remove problems that hold pages back, which is necessary but rarely enough. Ranking on page one also depends on content that answers searchers better than competitors, links from trusted sites, and local signals for local businesses. No one can honestly guarantee page-one rankings.

My site is on Wix or Shopify. Can I fix these issues myself?

Many of them, yes. Titles, meta descriptions, H1s, and alt text are editable in the built-in SEO settings on Wix, Shopify, and WordPress. Speed fixes are harder on hosted platforms because you control less of the code. Start by compressing images and removing apps or widgets you do not use.

How is this different from your AI Visibility Checker?

This grader focuses on classic SEO: speed, page experience, and on-page basics for Google's regular results. The AI Visibility Checker focuses on whether AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity can reach and understand your site. Run both. A page needs to pass the basics before AI tools will cite it.
