Platform SEO

SEO Services by Platform: Fixes Built for the Site You Already Have

Wix, Shopify, WordPress and Magento each break SEO in their own way. We find the problems your platform creates and fix them, so you can grow traffic without starting over.

Why does your platform change how SEO works?

Every website builder makes choices for you. It decides how URLs look, what code loads on each page, and what you are allowed to edit. Those choices are invisible until rankings stall. Generic SEO advice ignores them, which is why a checklist that works on WordPress can do nothing on Wix.

Most owners hear one of two things from agencies: "your platform is bad for SEO, rebuild it" or "SEO is SEO, the platform does not matter." Both are usually wrong. A rebuild costs months and puts rankings at risk. Ignoring the platform means paying for work that never touches the real problem.

Which platforms do we optimize?

We work with WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, Joomla, Wix, Squarespace and similar builders, Elementor and other theme builders, and custom sites. The four platforms our clients use most each have their own page below. Each one explains what that platform does well, where it gets in the way, and how we fix it. Running WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Joomla, Squarespace, an Elementor theme or a custom build? The same thinking applies. Ask for a free audit and we will tell you plainly what your platform allows and what we would fix first.

Wix SEO

Wix handles the basics out of the box. The limits show up in URL structure, page weight and how much control you have over code. Best fit for local service businesses and smaller stores.

Magento SEO

Magento (Adobe Commerce) runs large catalogs. Layered navigation, URL rewrites and wasted crawl budget are the usual reasons big Magento stores underperform.

Shopify SEO

Shopify is fast to launch and easy to run. It also creates duplicate product URLs, fixed URL folders and app bloat that slows pages down.

WordPress SEO

WordPress gives you the most control. That freedom cuts both ways: plugin conflicts, cheap hosting and theme bloat are where most WordPress sites lose ground.

6x

impressions for a Wix store in six months

What results have platform-specific fixes produced?

Two recent campaigns show what happens when you work with the platform instead of against it. A Wix e-commerce store saw 6x impressions, 2.5x clicks and tripled organic revenue in six months. A Shopify and WordPress campaign reached 6x impressions, 5x clicks and doubled revenue over the same window. Both results came from optimizing the platform the client already used. What should you check first on your platform?

Each platform has a short list of problems that show up again and again. Here is where to look first, even if you never hire us.

WordPress and WooCommerce

  • Under Settings, then Reading, make sure "Discourage search engines" is unchecked
  • Run one SEO plugin, not two that fight each other
  • Delete plugins and themes you no longer use
  • Check that tag and archive pages are not crowding out your real pages
  • On WooCommerce, keep filter and sort URLs out of Google's index

Shopify and BigCommerce

  • On Shopify, link to the main /products/ address, not the longer /collections/ version of the same product
  • Remove apps you do not use, and check that their leftover code is gone too
  • Write your own description for each top collection or category
  • Replace default titles on your best-selling pages with ones you wrote

Magento

  • Decide which filter pages Google should see, and block the rest
  • Check canonical tags on category and product pages
  • Watch the Crawl stats report in Search Console for wasted crawling

Wix, Squarespace and similar builders

  • Fill in the SEO settings on every page, not just the homepage
  • Resize and compress large images before you upload them
  • Go easy on animations, sliders and embedded widgets
  • Add a redirect whenever you change a page's address

Joomla, Elementor and custom sites

  • Joomla: Turn on search-engine-friendly URLs and check that each article loads at only one address.
  • Elementor and theme builders: Use one H1 per page, and pick heading tags for structure, not for font size.
  • Custom sites: Make sure you can edit titles, descriptions and redirects without waiting on a code release.

Value tip: whatever you run, open Google Search Console, go to the Pages report, and read the reasons pages are not indexed. That one report shows most platform problems, such as duplicates, bad redirects and blocked pages, in Google's own words.

Should you fix your platform or move off it?

Fix it in most cases. Move only when the platform blocks something you cannot work around. Use this quick test before anyone talks you into a rebuild:

  1. Can you edit title tags, meta descriptions and headings on every page type? If yes, keep going.
  2. Can you set redirects and canonical tags (tags that tell Google which version of a page is the main one)? If yes, keep going.
  3. Do your key pages load in under about three seconds on a phone? If not, can you remove apps, plugins or scripts to get there?
  4. Can you add structured data (code that describes your products, reviews or services to search engines)?

If you answered yes, or "yes with some work," your platform is not the problem. If you hit a hard "no" on two or more, it may be time for a rebuild. Our web design team plans those moves so rankings carry over.

How does platform SEO work with MRB?

Plans start at $950/month. The price changes with the size of your site, how competitive your market is, and how much content and link building you need. See pricing.

Who will work on your site?

Brian Vastola, our founder, has done hands-on SEO for 25 years. He leads every platform audit and joins calls with your developer when code changes are needed. A senior team of five does the work. No account managers, no handoffs.

Which platform is best for SEO?

WordPress gives you the most control, Shopify is strong for stores that want simple operations, and Magento handles very large catalogs. Wix now covers the basics well for smaller sites. The best platform is usually the one you already have, set up correctly. Rankings come from content, links and technical health far more than from the logo on your builder.

Can you do SEO on any platform?

Yes, if we can edit page content, titles, redirects and basic code. We work with WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, Joomla, Wix, Squarespace and similar builders, Elementor and other theme builders, and custom sites. A few closed systems lock key settings. If yours does, our free audit will say so before you spend anything.

How much does platform SEO cost?

Plans start at $950/month for local businesses. E-commerce plans for nationwide stores start at $3,600/month and go up with catalog size and competition. One-time technical fixes on a complex Magento or Shopify store can add scope. You get a written plan with costs before any work starts.

How long until I see results?

Technical fixes often show up in Search Console within 4 to 8 weeks as Google recrawls your pages. Meaningful gains in clicks and revenue usually take 3 to 6 months. Competitive e-commerce markets can take longer. We give you an honest range after the audit, not a guarantee.

Will switching platforms hurt my rankings?

It can if redirects, URLs and content are not mapped page by page. Most traffic drops after a migration come from missed redirects. If you must switch, we build a redirect map, test it before launch and watch Search Console closely for the first 90 days.

Do you work with my developer?

Yes. Many clients keep their own developer or theme partner. We write clear tickets, explain why each change matters and review the work after it ships. Brian joins developer calls himself when the fix is technical.

Is Wix or Squarespace bad for SEO?

No. Modern builders cover the basics: editable titles and descriptions, redirects, and layouts that work on phones. The limits are page speed and how much code you can change. For a local service business or a small store, that is usually enough. Very large or complex sites can outgrow them.

Do I need an SEO plugin or app for my platform?

Sometimes. WordPress needs one SEO plugin to manage titles, descriptions and sitemaps. Shopify, Wix and Squarespace have those settings built in. Extra apps can add useful features, but every app also adds code that can slow your pages. Install only what you will use, and remove the rest.
